My name is Chuck Woolson (aka ©jabbascript) and I am a Certified Professional Hacker (I prefer the title Cyber-Security Consultant, but Hacktography™ makes better sense than Consultography) and this is my story.
IÂ was born at an early age. I grew up in a time that was quite a bit different than the time we live in. There weren’t many notable technological advances made in the 70s and 80s. My grandfather did, however, have a voice activated remote for his television. He would say, “Chuck, change that tv to channel 6, I want to see the evening news.”
Let’s just say that I carved a path through life with a blend of grit and grace. Some would say that I came up in a tough environment-Â heck, I didn’t know any different. But that’s a story for a different time and a different blog. Besides, I made it through my formative years in one piece, the other stuff is just character builders.
Those builders didn’t just shape me—they laid the foundation for two paths that would eventually collide.
The Hacking Element: Breaking and Building
In 1991, I enlisted in the Marine Corps as Military Police, where discipline met duty. The Corps taught me discipline; life taught me reinvention. By ‘93, married to my best friend and discharged, I built a family of three wild(ly) perfect kids. My early career journey? One that began with masonry, granite countertops, and commercial driving — buses, trolleys, you name it – I drove it. Then, 2019 hit hard: a near-fatal medical crisis forced a reboot. Placed on full disability, I faced a crossroads; live my life in poverty and defeat, or get up and try something else. My former Commanding Officer threw me a lifeline — he suggested cybersecurity. Starting from zero, I hacked my way up, and by 2022, I earned my OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional – told ya I was Certified!!), a badge of honor in a new digital battlefield.
In code, I find structure; in breaking systems, I learn how to rebuild them stronger - like the ones I now capture through a lens.
The Photography Element: Light and Shadow
In 2004, I grabbed my first ‘real’ camera — the original Canon Digital Rebel, packing a modest 6.3-megapixel punch. Portraits, weddings, studio lights — I mastered the craft and the digital darkroom, Photoshop and Lightroom. My son, my protégé, soaked it all in, finding his own niche in macro photography, winning awards and hearts alike. His tragic passing in 2015 paused my lens, but not my spirit.
Then Christmas 2024, a gift from a special Uncle: a Panasonic GH4, vintage tech with a pulse. That camera wasn’t just gear—it was a reboot key, reigniting the system I thought had shut down. Now, to honor my son’s macro legacy, I hack the unseen — capturing the beauty most miss, pixel by pixel, frame by frame.
In light, I find stories; in shadows, I discover the beauty of resilience - like the code I crack every day.
